Manchester United have been boosted by the potential return of Antonio Valencia, who recently revealed that he is doing well in his rehabilitation process.
The Ecuadorian winger has been a major absentee for United, who have struggled for goals. One of the reasons for United struggling to score goals is the lack of pace up front. Louis van Gaal recently admitted that there was an issue with speed in the team. This could be solved by the return of Valencia, who is one of the fastest players in the Premier League. The former Wigan man is currently on the sidelines following an injury sustained during the Manchester derby back in October.
Valencia recently tweeted that he has been making sufficient progress in order to return to the team. However, Van Gaal admitted that the player may be a good month away from returning to the first-team since he does not have the required fitness now. The Dutchman is stringent when it comes to fitness requirements from his players. It was a major reason behind Luke Shaw, who is one of the world’s most expensive left backs, being unable to feature regularly for United in his first year at the club. Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini played an integral part in the club’s revival in fortunes towards the end of the season.
The Belgian seemingly was heading towards an exit when Louis Van Gaal took over. After all, he had just completed a very poor first season at Old Trafford and he was widely rated as not being a ‘United type of player’. Amidst all such opinions,Fellaini managed to play a vital role in Unitedreturning to the Champions League. Some of his key goals came in key matches – like against West Brom – when United were struggling to make any impact.

The former Everton man finished last season with seven goals from 27 matches. More importantly, he has helped retain the ball in the attacking third of the pitch due to his physical presence.Fellaini, though, sees his future at United transforming into a defensive midfielder going forward. Louis Van Gaal has credited his players for the revival in form that they have shown in the last few months. The Dutchman was famous for altering the tactics of United to a unique 3-5-2 system with a number of players like Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young being used out of position. After severe criticism that he faced in the first half of the season, Van Gaal is now basking in the glory of being considered as one of the top managers in the league. His United team have achieved wins over Liverpool and Tottenham when these teams were in form.
This has propelled them towards sealing a top four spot comfortably even with a few matches left. There has even been the talk of a title challenge even though table leaders Chelsea may appear to be quite far away. Van Gaal opened his United account with only three wins from the first 10 matches. They have now achieved four straight victories in the league. Even though the possibility of winning a title looks beyond them this campaign, it will be considered as a hugely successful season if they get into the top four. United have suffered only two defeats in the league since November. Continue reading Louis Van Gaal has credited his players for the revival in form
