Ander Herrera says that Manchester United are better than their arch rivals Manchester City in the battle for the top four.
The two teams are separated by just one point going into the final seven matches. One of the two Manchester clubs are likely to be without Champions League football for next season. After already missing out on this elite position over the last couple of seasons, United will want to qualify at all costs. They especially want to be attractive to a new manager should Louis Van Gaal receive the sack in the summer.
City, meanwhile, have already appointed Pep Guardiola – one of the best managers in world football. They will want to be in the best club competition in order to satisfy the Spaniard’s hunger for more trophies. There is even a possibility of outsiders like West Ham taking advantage of the competition between City and United to gate-crash the party.Herrera, though, reckons that United are getting into their stride at just the right time. The club managed a narrow 1-0 win over Everton during the weekend. City, meanwhile, were comfortable in the 4-0 success over Bournemouth. City will feel like having an advantage due to their better goal difference, but they may be hampered by their involvement in the Champions League knockout stages.
“Man United should be every year in the Champions League. I think the last 25 or 26 years, just one time we didn’t play Champions League, so we want to be there. We are Man United, we as players are obligated to fight until the end and I think we have the quality to be there.Man City has a bigger squad, very good players, but I think right now we can fight against them.We have recovered some important players for us. They are going to help us and there is a lot of experience,” said Herrera.
