I think it’s safe at this stage to say that Ferguson has managed to get two very capable goalkeepers at United now, to replace the legend of Edwin Van Der Sar. Anders Lindegaard and David De Gea probably cannot decide between them who’d play in an FA Cup final for example, if United were to make it that far this season.
I asked on Twitter a few weeks ago, who would you start in between the sticks next week if we had a Cup final on the cards. And as I somewhat expected, 50/50 was virtually the split with arguments for and against both goalkeepers.
De Gea has the experience on his side, despite his young age. But then you have to consider the vast differences between La Liga and the Premier League. I don’t think La Liga would ever have a team such as Stoke replying on physical presence to dominate games. De Gea’s tasted wonderful success already at both club and International level already.
Lindegaard seems to have settled a lot better at United however and no evident language barrier exists with the Dane. Granted he’s been here longer than De Gea and doesn’t have the sort of media attention following him, waiting for his every error like De Gea has.
So how to De Gea and and Lindegaard compare to each other so far? Ben Amos was the man given the gloves for the brief Carling Cup run United went on this season, so the League and Champions League were where the main two men got their chances to impress.
David has made 18 appearances for United this season so far. It’s safe to say that he has played in virtually all the ‘big’ matches, including the Community Shield win over Man City, League games against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and that one I’d rather not mention. United have won 11 of the 18 matches De Gea has played in, a win percentage of just over 61% for the Spaniard. De Gea has only managed to keep 6 clean sheets.
Anders on the other hand has been playing second fiddle really for Ferguson, having played only 7 games for the Champions this season. The Dane has played in some of the lesser games, with his biggest game being in Portugal against Benfica in the Champions League. Of those 7 fixtures, United have come away with the points on 6 occasions with the other being a draw. Lindegaard is also stringing together a strong run of clean sheets, having kept 6 in a row now. Aders made his first consecutive appearances for United during their last two games, 5-0 wins over Fulham and Wigan.

We are lucky to have two keepers with great potential. For me though lindegaard shades it. He seems more confident and calm. De gea has time and youth on his side. My only problem is that both are to good for the bench and one could leave if they don’t get first team football
in a situation where you cant eat your cake and have them i think am giving my votes to de gea caure the yong 7ainard has vas uast experience at the higher level.
It has to be de Gea he’s a better shot stopper and is more experienced at the top level. SAF obviously agreed because ddg is 1st choice
As good as Lindegaard is, you play your best players in the big games and De Gea is the better keeper for me. Seems that way to SAF as well.
